ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition Graphics Card
ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition is powered by the new NVIDIA Pascal architecture and bundled with a free 1-year premium license of customized ASUS GPU Tweak II and XSplit Gamecaster for intuitive performance tweaking and instant gameplay streaming. It enables truly game-changing performance with captivating sights and sounds, as well as next-generation VR performance that offers the lowest latency and plug-and-play compatibility with leading headsets.
The ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition Graphics Card has four Graphics Processing Clusters, 20 Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs), and 2,560 CUDA processing cores—the previous-generation GTX 980 had 16 SMs and 2,048 CUDA cores. Both the base and boost clock speeds of the GTX 1080 are higher, too (1,607MHz and 1,733MHz versus 1,126MHz and 1,216MHz), as are the memory speed and bandwidth (10Gbps and 320GBps versus 7Gbps and 224GBps). (Note that because the GTX 1080 uses 8GB of GDDR5 memory, it is going to be noticeably larger than cards that use High-Bandwidth Memory that can be located directly on the processing die.) All of this ensures that the GTX 1080 turns out graphics that soar not only at high levels of detail, but in some of the most intensive applications on the market today: 4K and virtual reality.
Based on NVIDIA’s Pascal architecture, the ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition Graphics Card provides major improvements in performance, memory bandwidth, and power efficiency over its predecessor, the high-performance Maxwell architecture. It also introduces innovative graphics features and technologies that redefine the computer as the platform for playing AAA games and taking full advantage of virtual reality via NVIDIA VRWorks.
The front panel of the card features a variety of outputs. There are three DisplayPort 1.4 outputs in addition to an HDMI 2.0b output and a DVI-D Dual-Link output. The GTX 1080 is not just about high-resolution gaming. Computationally intensive programs can utilize the GPU’s 2560 cores to accelerate tasks using CUDA or other APIs.
For cooling, ASUS implemented NVIDIA’s blower-style cooler with vapor chamber cooling technology. This cooling configuration is good for SLI or other configurations where space between computer components can be a concern.
