PROS:
- I don’t have a lab in which I can prove the accuracy of this Braun thermometer, but I know from 25 years of doctors’ office visits that my core body temperature naturally runs about a degree lower than the vaunted 98.6˚F “normal” touchstone. After priming this Braun Ear Thermometer for the first time, my first reading was 97.8˚F, and I instantly had a trusted new medical-device “friend,” especially since I could repeat that result within a couple tenths of a degree over the next couple of minutes.
- It really does work quickly. I have four kids ages between 3 and 9 and I wish I had had this thermometer when they were younger and wigglier. That being said, it’s still wonderful to have now. Because impatient sickies come in all ages!The ear “probe” is small enough too fit in a small ear, fits my 6 month old nephew, as well as an adult.
CONS:
- There are three metrics for a body thermometer: accuracy, consistency and safety. The gold standard for the first two properties was the old mercury thermometer.I’ve always liked the tasteful appearance and solid quality of Braun products. But whether it’s a product problem or a basic problem with the reliability of the ear measurement, it’s hard to recommend it.
- The screen doesn’t light up for easy reading at night.
