- Although it is expensive (I paid $250; the price is dropping), you get what you pay for: Wide-angle, Video/Picture Quality, Time/Speed/Location Stamp, G-Sensor, reliability.
- The Garmin Dash Cam 20 unobtrusively records crisp HD video of the road ahead. A video buffer and G-sensor automatically capture the moments leading up to an accident and those immediately following. GPS location and speed data is embedded in the recording.
- I am on my 4th dash cam as a truck driver. Started with a go pro (lasted 3 months and broke). Then I tried 2 cheap chinese dash cams. Both worked well but only lasted about 6 months each. This dash cam has the best and most clear picture of all. I can easily read license plates and at night everything the light touches, including headlights, can be seen well. The camera records GPS data accurately and displays coordinates at the bottom of the video as well as date, time, and speed.
- The suction cup mount is horrible. It worked great for about 2 months and then started failing. You attach it and it gets a great grip on the glass after you flip up the lock lover but then you come back a few hours later to the car and the mount has let go and the $250 gadget has bounced down off the dash or console or seats and is laying in the floor.
- Garmin doesn’t include any software to take advantage of the captured GPS data. The AVI video format requires third-party software to view. Out of the box, the device beeps loudly and often, and No MacOS version of PC Tools software.
- I bought this camera primarily to use on my Subaru BRZ. I was primarily hoping to use it to capture drive footage for fun, record the occasional awful driver to put up on youtube, and lastly to capture an accident if one were to occur. The G-sensor, no matter which setting, was too sensitive in my vehicle. Braking or accelerating I never had an issue, however in a corner which may have even the slightly bump in the road can cause it to trigger. I have disabled it completely, otherwise I will just end up with a huge pile of read-only footage taking up space on the SD card. Wish they had more sensitivity levels to choose from.
